Healing People by Healing the Planet
Nature is Africaβs greatest asset against climate change, wetlands filter water, forests cool air, and biodiversity supports livelihoods. Yet these systems are under threat.
At AFRIHECOM, we champion Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), using ecosystems to address climate and health challenges in ways that are sustainable, affordable, and community-owned.
We restore and protect nature as infrastructure for resilience.
β Wetland Restoration
We partner with communities to restore wetlands that reduce flooding, filter water, and cut malaria by eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
β Urban Greening
We support green roofs, urban forests, and cooling corridors in cities like Nairobi and Mombasa to combat heat stress.
β Agroforestry & Reforestation
We promote tree planting on farms and degraded lands to improve soil, water, and nutrition.
β Ecosystem-Based Disease Prevention
We map and protect ecosystems that naturally regulate disease β like forests that buffer zoonotic spillover.
- 12+ hectares of wetlands restored
- Malaria cases reduced by 50% in pilot areas
- Urban heat stress reduced in 3 Nairobi informal settlements
Β Our Approach: Nature as Medicine
We frame ecosystem health as public health.
Through storytelling, school programs, and policy advocacy, we:
- Make the case for investing in nature
- Train communities as ecosystem stewards
- Influence funding and policy for NbS
βA healthy wetland is a clinic, a pharmacy, and a water plant β all in one.β
