Protecting Africa’s Food Security in a Changing Climate
African agriculture is highly vulnerable to intensifying climate shocks — from prolonged droughts and flooding to rising temperatures that reduce crop yields and accelerate livestock mortality. ARC LTD conducts transdisciplinary research to build climate-adaptive food systems by addressing the energy-water-food nexus.
Our work includes developing frameworks for Resilient African Feed and Fodder Systems (RAFFS) to protect livestock from extreme droughts, generating empirical data to design circular economy projects that reduce food loss and waste (FLW), and evaluating the integration of climate-resilient “orphan crops” to combat malnutrition.
